Lisa Hammond

I HAVE just returned from 3 wonderful months spent in Gifu, the Mino pottery area of Japan. I was invited by Potter Rizu Takerhashi to make pots with him in his studio for three Exhibitions Tokyo , Nagoya , and Mizunami Museum, I also had work in the new ceramic park museum in Mino, with soda glaze pots shipped from London
Using a traditional stick hand wheel I made pots using locally dug Shino clay , also Iga and shigaraki clays for a five day Anagama Firing. In a studio that was sometimes -5deg c Rizu and I cheerfully exchanged ideas and techniques, Rizu hand cutting shino Chawan with a red pine wood tool, and me demonstrating handles and soft altering techniques, I am totally hooked on hand cutting and can see many uses in my work and I am looking forward new shoots developing in my work developing in the coming months

All the yunomi, guinomi and chawan illustrated were made in Japan. Each piece is marked with Lisa's personal seal and an impressed J to denote Japan.
Each bowl comes in custom made box signed to the inside of the lid with seals especially made in Japan for the purpose.
