Born
in Portsmouth in1978 Amanda studied Art and Design for three years
before moving to Cornwall in 1997 to start a degree in studio ceramics
at Falmouth College of Arts. After graduating in June 2000 Amanda
set up in business with help from The Prince's Trust to purchase
a pottery wheel.
In October 2000 Amanda started work at The Leach Pottery, St.Ives,
Cornwall and for five years worked along side Trevor Corser and
Joanna Wason.
'Working at The Leach Pottery has been the most inspiring journey
and a most valued start to what I hope will be a long career as
a studio potter. My experience dramatically changed my work as I
was learning skills and techniques that have been passed through
the pottery for many years'.
'I use stoneware and porcelain. Most of my work is in porcelain
and I fire in reduction. The glazes I use are, tenmoku, copper red,
celadon's and satin white. The hand painted work of Bernard Leach
has always greatly inspired my decoration. I use iron and blue pigments
to decorate over my satin white glaze'.
