Mike
Dodd
A wonderful yunomi
(teacup) stoneware, with a kaki glaze over a green celadon. Wax
resist pattern. Mike has a real feel for the yunomi form and his
kaki glaze is one of the best produced by any potter working in
the West.

Edward
Hughes 1953 - 2006
A large yunomi by Edward
Hughes, Edward lived and made pots in Japan for a number of years
before returning to England to set up a studio in Cumbria. The yunomi
is typical of this potter's glaze style, the stunning effect is
obtained by glazing the piece with two glazes wet on wet. This technique
is often practiced by Japanese potters.

John
Leach
Yunomi,
stoneware, wood-fired. A good yunomi from John Leach. John only
started making his own work (personal signed pieces) quite recently.
This mature yunomi demonstrates his skills and understanding of
the yunomi form. This example is glazed in the standard Muchelney
glaze palette of a red slip/glaze and tenmoku leaving part of the
body raw to allow the flames to flash and glaze the unglazed areas
with ash from the wood-firing.

Nick
Rees.
More a Chawan (Teabowl)
than a yunomi, this wonderful bowl by Nick Rees is glazed in a rich
black tenmoku which due to the wood-firing has were thicker trapped
carbon turning the black to a beautiful gunmetal blue. This bowl
with its full curved form and segmenting is a great example of Nick
at his best. One of my favourite bowls.

Jack
Troy (USA)
This yunomi by the American
potter Jack Troy was made and fired during his residency at Rufford
Craft Centre. I was privileged to help Jack with the firing of the
anagama kiln that was the climax of his stay at Rufford. All who
helped were given pieces by Jack from the kiln as a thank you. Wood-fired
with shino glaze. Incised JT personal mark.
