Yeap
Poh Chap
Shallow footed
bowl, porcelain with tenmoku glaze.
This shallow footed bowl is one of Chap's most simple and classic
forms. Single colour glazed bowls reached the height of refinement
and purity in the Ming period. The rich black tenmoku on this bowl
breaks to rust around the rim giving the finest of counter points
to the dense black tenmoku glaze. Yeap Poh Chap has with this piece
captured all the subtlety of the original Chinese form.
Size, h.9.0cms Ø. 17.0.cms
Signed Yeap script engraved to inside footring

Ian
Godfrey (1942-1992)
A wonderful yunomi
(teacup) segmented with a carved design, stoneware. Each of the
four panels has been carved back through a thickly applied slip
with a different scene.
Though Godfrey is best known for his sculptural ceramics this piece
by him shows a real understanding of the yunomi form.
Size, h.9.0cms Ø. 10.0.cms
