Jayson Lawfer has been studying, collecting, making, and firing teabowls for the past several years. He has been through many stages to create a form that represents his style and voice.
"I have always felt that containment and aesthetics always share a seat in my thoughts as I sit at the pottery wheel. I try to create a form that will give pleasure to the user, but not for a moment- for the existence of the pot. I would like my pots to become intimate with the user as they fill it, drink from it, and watch it reside in their home."
Because of the throwing and firing techniques that Jayson uses with his teabowls, each bowl has its own unique individuality.
"It is important for a teabowl to engage with the user a sense of existence and duty. I feel that in the world we live today, where many objects are mass produced and without thought, a handmade
ceramic pot reveals something more. It reveals a sense of dedication and determination by the creator to release artistic thought and meet the demands of practical purpose."
