David
& Margaret Frith are no strangers to Rufford, they have over
the years been regular participants at the annual Earth & Fire
ceramics festivals, they have also taken part in exhibitions held
in the Rufford upstairs gallery space. David had a Solo Exhibitions
in 1980's and both David and Margaret were participants in a group
show 1993. This joint new exhibition "Concordia" in the
upstairs gallery space of the Rufford Craft Centre will be their
largest joint exhibition to date.
Both
David & Margaret make pots that are firmly rooted in the Anglo
Oriental Tradition of thrown and reduction fired stoneware and porcelain.
A significant influence on them both has been the pots, teaching
and their friendship with the late and sadly missed Derek Emms.
David enrolled on to the North Staffordshire Technical College pottery
course to be tutored by Derek after previously attending Wimbledon
School of Art and Margaret enrolled a short time later after first
working with Leo Matthews at Bolton Art School. Leo Matthews had
trained with Derek Emms.
The
exhibition will feature major new works in both stoneware and porcelain.
David will be showing some large jars of monumental size and large
chargers. Margaret's works include some of her wonderful carved
porcelain bowls, boxes and tea wares.
