- November 8th
Private View
Saturday 2.00pm October 11th 2003
The Oakwood Gallery has been looking
forward to holding a major solo exhibition by this much admired
potter. We are particularly pleased that the exhibition will include
other aspects of Phil's work.
Phil Rogers has been a potter for 24 years.
In this time he has had over 30 one-man exhibitions. He has an international
reputation, exhibiting at the World Ceramic Biennale in South Korea
and Saltzbrand a prestigious exhibition of salt glaze in Germany.
Phil has also conducted many workshops around the World, in the
USA, Canada, Korea, South Africa, Malta as well as many in the UK.
Phil produces both glazed stoneware using where possible locally
(Mid Wales) sourced materials particularly wood ash, and salt glazed
stoneware and more recently porcelain.
His work reflects many ceramic traditions, Medieval European, 15th
and 16th century Korean and German salt glaze. He is also interested
and inspired by the later work of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada.
In addition to his ceramics, Phil is also an author, writing several
books on ceramics, some of the tiles he has written include a book
on the technique of throwing as well as other titles on Ash Glazes
and Salt Glazing, Salt Glazing being published in 2002 with a revised
edition of Ash Glazes due out in 2003 ( signed copy's available
at the exhibition).
Roger's work ranges from the exquisite small to the monumentally
large; from beautiful small lidded boxes to majestic large bottles
and jars. He also produces works on paper that feature his ceramic
forms. A small numbered edition will be produced for this exhibition,
also we are intending to produce a limited number of small teabowls
with a unique impressed seal together with Phil's personal seal.
More information will be posted on these two very special aspects
of this exhibition nearer the time of the exhibition.
Phil Rogers will be in attendance at the private view and
available to answer any questions about his work. There will be
books available to buy and have signed Please contact the gallery
for further information. More images of work in the exhibition will
be posted nearer the Exhibition date.
