Mike Dodd
March 29th - April 26th 2003
Private View
Saturday 2.00pm March 29th

The Oakwood Gallery are delighted to be hosting an exhibition by this important and influential potter.

Mike Dodd attended Bryanston School Dorset from 1957 - 1961,here he encountered art teacher Donald Potter. This wonderful teacher, who had worked with Eric Gill introduced Dodd to clay through the work of Cardew and Hamada also introducing him to the ideas of Bernard Leach. Even though Dodd went onto read medicine at Cambridge the seed had been planted that shaped his life, leading him into the world of art and ceramics.
While Dodd's pots and ideas owe much to the Leach legacy, his pots are a testimony to the his own individual creative thinking.
His work contains references to Turkish, Burmese and African pots showing the true complexity of the creative route. His pots have a strong feeling for form and show great sensitivity and expression in their making, decorating and glazing. Michael Cardew called this quality, the glow of life.
