John Ward

John Ward was born in North London and studied ceramics at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts (1966-1970) where visiting teachers included Hans Coper and Lucie Rie. His coiled stoneware pots are made with precision and with smooth surfaces. Ward makes shaped and angular forms with the sufaces coloured with pale glazes or sometimes with contrasting geometric patterns in black and white. Ward focuses on the vessel shape, although function is not his immediate concern. In 1975 he moved to West Wales where he continues to live and work.
COLLECTIONS
His work can be seen in many public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum Bellerive, Zurich, Pennsylvania State Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, The National Museum of Wales, Cardiff and the V&A Museum, London.
