Raku Sculptural Pieces

Peter Hayes is one of Britain's most acclaimed ceramicists. His work is quite special he takes his inspiration from ceramic traditions of Africa (smoked and pit fired works) also from Landscapes, textures and beachcombing these elements all play their part in the evolution of his work. Peter say's he tries to achieve opposites of rough and smooth by building up layers of textured clay combined with burnishing and polishing of surfaces.

Axe Form with Bronze Sun Disc

A large raku piece by Peter Hayes. This example is one of Peter's most reconisable forms, axe like form with a bronze disc inserted. Deep burnished red colour with good stress lines and texture. This is a major work by Peter. Incised in to the base Peter Hayes 2001.
