Walter Keeler is a professor of ceramics, and was shortlisted for the Jerwood Applied Arts prize in 2001. His work in many public collections around the world, Walter is renowned for his remarkable contribution and pioneering work in both salt and creamware (Whieldon) pottery. He was the Gold Medal winner for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Newport 2004.
Walter's work falls within two distinct strands, his saltglazed work and his more recent creamware work, which is inspired by his love of eighteenth century Staffordshire pottery. He has always been influenced by the traditions of vessel making. In producing each new piece, Walter's aim is to create an ''extraordinary object to do a commonplace job.''
